Authors: Kaluarachchi, K.A.S.D.
Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: PetsVcare is a major animal hospital situated in Kurunegala that provides number of services including ECG, X-Ray, Scanning and Surgeries. However, currently they do not have a computer based system to keep the information about owners, pets or treatments. In the busy environment, mainly in the evening, recording all the information manually is not practical either. In order to overcome the problems and support the management of PetsVcare, this network based system is proposed. This system covers all major tasks in hospital management s point of view. Register owners and their pets at the reception, handle appointments, assist doctors in their diagnosis by providing accurate information, real time update of stocks are done by the system. In addition it will keep employee information and provide well formatted reports to the management. All these functionalities of the system will be implemented in a way that reduce the time and effort of the user. One significant feature of this system is flexibility in deployment. Usage of the Model View Controller (MVC) design pattern and client server architecture, enabled to deploy and use the system as both a desktop application and, as a web based application. Users at hospital can interact with the system using the desktop application while management of hospital and pet owners interact via web based application. Object oriented concept is used as the programming paradigm and UML (Unified Modeling Language) is used to draw the design of the system. Hypertext Pre-Processor (PHP) used as the server side scripting language and desktop application is developed using Java. MySQL is selected as the database server. At the end of this development process, system was tested by users, and successfully handed over to the client to enhance their business processes. This system will also help the hospital to provide a better service for the clients and become the best animal hospital in Sri Lanka.
