Abstract: In the modern world information technology (IT) is crucial to the majority of businesses. Almost every company uses IT to some extent to manage their complex business processes. And that is a very important tool available to the management for achieving a higher level of efficiency in the business activities. Nowadays some companies prefer to have web based system to manage their businesses rather than installing software on number of client machines. This web based systems are famous due to its number of benefits like ubiquity of web browser, availability of the system at anytime, anywhere. The functions performed by the client, Road Development Authority (RDA) consist mainly of the development and maintenance of the roads and bridges in the National Highway Network and the planning, design and construction of new highways, bridges and expressways to augment the existing network. Bridges, one of the main assets which RDA is responsible for, consists of large amount of data. Though, at present the organization does not have a proper computer based system to manage this large amount of data other than keeping records in spread sheets. Further to that, these large number of bridges and large amount of data geographically dispersed and inspected and maintained by many branch offices located all over the country. Because of this involvement of the large number of officers and variations of their skills the consistency and the integrity of data is a problem. So, this project is an endeavor to overcome the existing problems in the present practice of bridge information system in RDA. Further to that this project is mainly focused on submitting the bridge inspection data, bridge inventory data and bridge rehabilitation data to a centralized database. The system is developed using PHP, MySQL and Java Scripts following Object Oriented Programming Methodology. The system follows MVC development pattern and CodeIgniter is used for that. At present the developed system supports to submit all the data in the current bridge related survey forms and other bridge related data. Also the system facilitates to retrieve data based on various requirements arising in the day to day works
