Authors: Gunasiri, M.H.D.Y.
Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: Sri Lanka Young Lawyers Association is newly formed association with the intention of increasing the knowledge, cooperation and experience among young lawyers. Sri Lanka Young Lawyers Association doesn t have an automated system to make their tasks easier and to communicate with their members of the association on their future plans and strategies without meeting physically. At the same time they are unable to be up-to-date on the legal knowledge and to maintain their legal works with clients effectively. As young lawyers have responsibilities towards their clients and to perform vast number of tasks, managing them efficiently have become tedious. These problems have given rise to the need for a well-organized web based information management system that will resolve the issues currently faced by the Young Lawyers Association. This proposed system is intended to solve the above mentioned problems by implementing several modules such as client management, member management, document management, conversation management etc. As the requirements of the clients are constantly changing, other than main functionalities, some new functionalities may be added in future. The current system was analysed using several fact finding techniques and functional and non-functional requirements on the proposed system were identified. Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagrams were used to depict the system and user interfaces were designed at the design stage. The development phase was done by using PHP Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) which is a server side scripting language and My Structured Query Language (MySQL) was used for database implementation while NetBeans Integrated Development Environment (IDE) was used as the development environment. Model, View, Controller (MVC) architecture is followed in order to separate the interfaces, logic, databases and connections. Testing was done during evaluation phase and user acceptance testing was held with a few lawyers in the Young Lawyers Association. The web based information management system for Young Lawyers Association has been designed to achieve the user requirements of the system. It could overcome the issues related to manual system and helps young lawyers to do their work related to their carrier efficiently.
