Abstract: The purpose of a School Management System (SMS) is to be a ladder to students who are climbing to reach the highest point of ICT education in life and to become one of the stakeholders of the world in the future. Therefore a School Management System is become an essential part of the human community is not just a system, but something that can be added value to the world. The web based School Management System for Upadya Vidyalaya Panadura as newly introducing system by replacing the existing manual system at the school to give a better service to the users of the system by avoiding existing difficulties and problems occur when extracting student?s information, preparing class time tables, allocation teachers for classes and lot more. After analyzing of functional and nonfunctional requirements of the Upadya Vidyalaya, several objectives are formed to achieve major goal. The System supplies its services to principal, teachers and students of the school as well as the parents and for all who are interested in getting information about the school. It is built to provide meaningful, consistent, up-to-date information to the users in an efficient and effective manner. Principal is getting most accurate administrative information to make more effective decisions. Teachers can upload assignments to students and get their working schedule and work upon the schedule. Students can track their progress, exam marks and assignment marks, class time tables of them at any time they wish and also through the web site some updates are allowed for users who wish to change their personal details. With the emerge of new technologies through the web, the system has been added new features such as Online application system, Online feedback tracking system, report generation system, time table generation system. Procedural Analysis and Design with the evolutionary prototyping methodology was use for system. Web based solution was developed and implemented by using Open source technologies using AppServ. Macromedia Dreamweaver CS with the JavaScript was used to develop attractive user interfaces. Testing process was carried out mainly in four categories as unit testing, module testing system testing and user accepting testing. This system was motivated to use of web technologies for information gathering and managing which placed paperless world.
