Online Vehicle Reservation and Management System for People Cabs

Abstract

People Cabs? is a well established vehicle hiring Service Company having high potential of increasing the number of customer s day-by-day. People Cabs manually perform their service management operations. but, Manual process results critical errors in the scheduling, account management, payment procedures etc ; Hence, People Cabs need a vehicle reservation and management system so that they need to do the process smoothly, eliminate errors out of the process, enhance People Cabs image, optimize the scheduling, enhance the system accessibility irrespective of the platform they are using etc This system is basically developed to support customers to reserve vehicles online and to manage the regular management procedures. This system is capable of customer registration, check vehicle availability and vehicle details, vehicle reservation, view rough distance and estimated cost of the trip, send Email/SMS notifications to customers and drivers, view/manage various reports to management. For vehicle owners they can register their vehicles in the system. For each and every person within the system have their own username and password to access the system. Furthermore this system will allow managing general data using an administration screen where an authorized person can login using the relevant username and password. Object-Oriented methodology is used to develop the system. It is chosen because of the easiness of implementation and the speed. Since this is a web based system, speed of the system is a very considerable fact. Core system is developed based on open source technologies. PHP is the main programming language used to develop the system. MySQL is used as the database management system. Apache is used as the web server. Few open source libraries were used to enhance the systems features and activities such as Chart and Report generation, Sending Email/SMS notifications to the customers and drivers, Calculate trip distance using Google Maps are features in this system. SMS sending feature of the system is implemented using a third party SMS gateway where user needs to subscribe for the service.
