Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: Medical laboratories perform vital role in modern society and their market demand is increasing day after day. Therefore enormous rivalry formed amongst the laboratories all over the country. Diagnostic Medical Laboratory Services started laboratory services in Wariyapola region within the extremely competitive atmosphere and as a challenger who wish to be the leader through developing a loyal customer base. In the progression of forming up a loyal customer base it involves improving quality and efficiency in their in-house workflow and additional customer based facilities. Through the existing manual workflow it is difficult to take such a lead in the market and computerized laboratory management system is compulsory to increase the quality, efficiency and reliability of the service and achieving the competitive advantage. The computerized laboratory management system systematize the internal workflow of laboratory for instance invoicing, test result entering, validating, printing in an effective manner. Systematize the complete administrative processes such as test management, user management and customer management. Furthermore it can be accessed by the doctors and the customers for their requirements. The system is developed by an iterative manner and using object oriented techniques. Rational Unified Process (RUP) model practised throughout the project s lifespan. The system is designed by using Unified Modeling Language (UML) and developed mostly by the support of open source tools. Furthermore for server side scripting Hypertext Pre Processor (PHP), client side scripting JavaScript techniques (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX), JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) and JQuery Library) used and Apache used as web server, MySQL is used as Database Management System (DBMS). The developed system will be appropriately tested for the functional and non-functional requirements earlier to the deployment. Furthermore the system will accomplish the user requirements and the diagnostic laboratory will achieve competitive advantage with the satisfied stakeholders.
