Title: ATTENDANCE & PAYROLL SYSTEM FOR SHARP EYES SPECIAL SECURITY SERVICE
Authors: Devanarayana, C.A.
Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: This project was launched and conducted to develop an Attendance & Payroll system for a private security service provider who had a compelling need for an automated solution to overcome several problems faced by the firm with regard to the wages payment mechanism, as the company was still fully dependent on manual systems. Being a service sector industry, the company s main asset comprised its employees, the security personnel. Therefore, employee satisfaction was a key factor for the organization to be able to deliver a good service to its clients. In order to keep the employees satisfied, accurate and on time payment of wages proved to be an essential task together with the provision of additional facilities such as various types of allowances, interest free loans, salary advances and insurance schemes etc. On the other hand with the growth of the company, the number of security personnel on its check roll increased markedly but there had to be a practical limit to the number of office staff who could be retained to handle the wages process. Consequently, the company found itself in a difficult situation when finalizing wages on time while striving to maintain the accuracy of the figures. Furthermore, the staff was facing a challenge when preparing transactional reports and management reports in a timely manner with the manual setup. The Attendance & Payroll system was developed to overcome such problems in the manual system mainly by automating calculations, data processing and the reporting aspects of the system. Since the wages preparation is based on attendance of the employees, the development solution had to include an attendance handling module to provide the required features. Rational Unified Process was employed in the system development process to build the system iteratively. Unified Modeling Language and object oriented techniques were used to design the system. MVP was the chosen design pattern and Microsoft .NET framework, C# language and Microsoft SQL Server were used to implement the system. After completion of the project, the Attendance & Payroll System was delivered to the client as planned with the specified features. The system is presently being used by the client company and it is expected that both the management and users will benefit from the outcome.
