Title: Library Management System for Kuli Haggamuwa Kanishta Viduhala

Abstract: The library of Kuli Haggamuwa Kanishta Vidyalaya has been running on a manual library system from the beginning. But, to interact with the new modern community and the modern technology, the obsolete manual technology should be changed. The school being a one with low facilities is the reason for that. To compete with the fast developing world, it is a must to interact with the modern technology. So as to achieve that goal, the school needs furnishing with a modern computerized library system. The manual system has various weak points. Those are inefficiency in member registration, storing that information securely. In addition to book lending, book returning, reminding of book retuning date and lending date and deciding of fines. Searching for a book is the most difficult task because the book status cannot be detected quickly and the librarian or the library staff has to do that task manually. A few of the goals of the project are to provide the users of the library an efficient and timely service and to drastically reduce the time and energy wasted in maintaining the library while reducing the workload of the librarian. In the library management system, there must be all the facilities which must be in a every library management system. Some features are important. those are administration facilities, member registration, lending books, returning books, fine calculation book searching using various tactics and reporting. The project was developed using NetBeans 7.3 as the IDE, MySQL Database Server 5.1 as the database server and also MySQL Workbench 5.2. The coding was done using the java programming language. iReport 5.5 was used for the report generation. And also Microsoft Visio was used for drawing the UML diagrams for showing in this dissertation. At the end of this project a standalone application that met the client requirements was successfully implemented and installed at the client computer. The system offered the client with something far greater than he expected.
