Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: Resource Management Systems has been mainly focused on resource oriented infor-mation. It has become a vital element to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in most large organizations globally. With the dawn of the internet and the growth of e-business on the World Wide Web, the information and resources sharing between re-mote locations have escalated rapidly. Therefore most of the organizations believes that it would be a wise step to interconnect the Resource Management System to the internet. The Survey Department of Sri Lanka has more than 20 Branches island wide. For years, all the activities related to resource management had been managed by collec-tive work. It involves lot of paper work and manual effort. This method of managing and using resource is not efficient and it has caused certain problems, such as losing track of resources and data redundancy. Hence, they made a wise decision in automat-ing the process of managing resources. The Survey Department is mainly focusing on managing their lands, vehicles and inventory in each branch. Store details, keeping count, checking resource availability, granting permission, tracking the use of re-sources, updating, details, generating reports are some features in this particular Re-source Management System. It was decided to use object oriented techniques for analysis, design and development. Unified Modeling Language was used in analyzing requirements and in design. UML diagrams such as use-case diagrams, class diagrams and etc were drawn to explain the system in detail. Since the Survey Department preferred open source components and specifically requested it, this web based Resource Management System was developed using PHP: Hypertext Pre-processor, HTML: Hypertext Markup language and Apache as a web server. My SQL was used as the Database Management System. XAMMP server was used in development with apache web server. By using the developed system users were able to overcome the problems of the previ-ous manual system. This dissertation includes the introduction and the work carried out in Analysis, Design, Development and the Evolution phases of the system devel-opment.UML diagrams such as Use-case diagrams, class diagrams and etc. are given under each chapter to explain the system in detail, which can ultimately be teamed as a success.
