Title: Web Based Management Information System for Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs

Abstract: The DHRCA is a government department and has more than 125 employees. It was established on 1st of January 1986 and presently functioning under the Ministry of Buddhaasana and Religious Affairs. The main responsibility is to actively contribute to preserve, promote and propagate the Hindu Religion, Hindu culture and arts and Hindu Religious education. These operations include wide variety of tasks such as managing information about resource management, event management, artist award management, training and seminar management and many more. These processes are currently handled manually and involves a lot of paper work. This method of handling the managing information has given rise to certain problems and the processes were not time efficient. As a solution the senior officers decided to combine Information Technology with managing information functions and to make a Management Information System to gain the advantages in technology for improving the manual functions. The system tends to make the management information processes more efficient with less man power. This web based management information system is built as a solution to overcome the above mentioned problems faced by the current manual system. It covers, fund management, Hindu organization registration, user management, resource management, publication management, Event management, artist award management, training and seminar management, report generation functions at this department which was initially carried out using manual processes. The system uses Structured Techniques. Hypertext Pre-Processor (PHP) which is a server-side scripting language was used to build the system and XAMPP has been used as the web server. Unified Modeling Language (UML) was used for Analysis and Design. MySQL was used to handle databases. It can be used in any browser under the Windows platforms.
