Abstract: The transformation of the new age of technology and e-Government concepts led most of the government, non-government companies and institutions to transform from the classical book based records management systems to computer-based solutions in order to reduce their workload and increase efficiency by automating functionalities. Sri-Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) which started its operations in 1958 is the largest bus service provider in Sri-Lanka with branches all over the island. But the organization is lacked on using computer based solutions in order to speed their business process which leads to good profit margins. The manual system involves lot of paper works and the staffs use to face many issues with searching, updating and maintaining the stack of files. Since reports generation is time consuming, it takes a long period to take managerial decisions. Furthermore, without knowing the actual bus arrival times, and the breakdowns the passengers may face a lot more difficulties. Moreover they do not have a method for online bus ticket booking. To overcome above mentioned problems, the Interactive Transport Management System was purposed. The designing and development of the system was done by using open source technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jquery, AJAX. Also MySQL has been used to develop the database. Java language was used to develop Android mobile application and C++ reusable components were adapted for the GPS device. Since the depot business process is very large, a solution for the main transportation part was addressed by the system. The system along with the website and forum has been developed to manage depot internal activities and improve the customer relationship and satisfaction while providing new facilities to the customers such as booking, bus tracking and viewing bus schedules which are dynamically updated.
