Web Based Office Automation System for State Elders Home

Abstract

State Elders Homes are located in Jaffna and Vavuniya districts of Northern Province in Sri Lanka. The main branch is situated in Kaithady area in Jaffna district. They have a plan to expand the Elders Home services to Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu and Mannar districts and also going to establish a link to other private Elders Homes. Their vision is to co-ordinate the services beyond their duty with good heartiness and sense of responsibilities . They aim to promote the livelihood of senior citizen s well beings and upgrade their standard towards spiritual, mental, physical and social movement activities. Presently the home is running their work in manually and facing many difficulties in recording their activities such as managing the elders details, staff details, doctors remarks, food and medicine and asset details of all their branches. In addition to that, they wish to publish awareness on abandoned parents and deserted elders through a web based system. This project is a web based solution was implemented to provide an effective and efficient Office Automation system for the Elders Home. The system has a prototyping architecture and Object Oriented techniques. The following techniques have been applied in the system: Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) is used as the server side scripting language, MYSQL was used to operate database with relational database management system, JavaScript, cascading style sheet (CSS), BootStrap are used to develop the system and Wamp server package used as local server. This system is a web based system, thus this is a platform independent and run any operating system environment like Windows or Linux, etc. The purpose of this Web Based Office Automation System is to minimize the work load, save the valuable time, increase efficiency of work and view the daily, monthly and annual reports. The web based office automation system has been designed to fulfill the user and system requirements. The system would assist the management of State Elders Home management to monitor and manage the overall processes of the home. It could also help the State Elders Home administration to work efficiently and effective system through this newly introduced web based system. The management likes to save the time and decrease the work load by using this system. This system would help them to achieve their goal. Finally the developed system is successfully implemented in the client s side working environment.
