Abstract: Well established Sahan Coir Industries produces coconut husks related products over 30 years for the local and international markets. Nowadays its products have high market demand such as industrial fibre products, horticulture products and erosion control products etc. Although the production is done supporting with mechanical system, their business activities related information is stored and processed in manual way. With manual file handling system, company business tasks related to purchase, inventory and sale are run in very inefficient manner. Therefore company cannot effectively cope with increasing market demand. Also labours cost and effort are wasted. To overcome these problems, computer base business process handling system was introduced. The proposed Inventory and Sale Management System will help to eliminate or reduce these business shortcomings related to purchase, inventory and sales management tasks. By the timely supplied accurate information through the system, company can run their business more efficient and effective way. For an example using the system supplied information such as inventory levels, sales orders, customer and payment details, company can run their business in better way with compare to manual system. This system was implemented as a standalone application which can also be run in a Local Area Network (LAN) and developed according to Model View Controller (MVC) pattern. Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Unified Modelling Language (UML) were chosen as development process and as modelling language for the system respectively because they were well match with Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) concept of system development. Java SE 7 programming language was used to build the system with supporting NetBeans IDE 7.3 and MySQL Server 5.5 was chosen to manage database. Finally, overall objectives of the system were achieved providing an excellent solution for the problems related to purchase, inventory and sales management.
