dc.description.abstractInformation technology plays a vital role in almost all the important fields in today s society. The effect of IT was the big reason for the rapid development of the education field which most people experience today. Powerful and effective features of information technology has been empowering every section of education. Hence it is essential for an institute that is related to education field, use the proper process of IT in order to achieve highest positive outcomes. As a leading teaching institute for computer education, Matrix Institute of Information Technology has been in the field for more than 10 years. Matrix Institute has been continuously evolving not only as a business enterprise, but also in providing a more technological friendly environment to the students and the staff. Currently they are using a simple computerized system to manage students. But in order to meet the growing needs of the industry and to obtain a competitive advantage, the management of Matrix Institute has taken a wise decision to make a fully computerized web based student management system, thus handing over the responsibility to myself to design and develop the complete system. The Web Based Student Management System for MIIT has been developed according to the RUP model which supports object oriented concepts. The system adopts the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture. PHP was chosen as the development technology with the support of open source web frameworks, which makes the system highly reliable, maintainable and user-friendly. MySQL was used as the relational database management system and Apache server was selected as the application server. In addition to them, Unified Modelling Language was used for analysis and design. The system prior to complete deployment, underwent a series of tests (unit testing, integration testing, system testing, user acceptance testing) to ensure that the new system meets the expectation levels of the intended audience. With the proposed system, they expect to meet the maximum progress in students education level and improve the quality of the lecturer panel by letting them easily identify the areas which need more attention and assistance. Furthermore a computerized system will ensure the efficiency in manipulation of administrative tasks in the institute.en_US
