The government also has introduced the e-Sri Lanka concept, through which both the IT infrastructure and computer literacy of the country being improved. Meanwhile, computer has become a home appliance among the people in their daily routine. Hence, there is a big opening for the IT infrastructure solutions and services providers in the country. SYNTAX COMPUTER CENTRE (SCC) is one of such business which is a wellrecognized and long surviving business in the area. At present, they use IT facilities to some extent in their daily business activities but heavily based on their manual file system. This makes the business inefficient and directly affecting its future progress. ONLINE SHOP MANAGEMANT SYTEM (OSMS) has provided a direct solution for the key problems. The daily functions of the business such as purchasing, sales and order processing are automated by the system. Further it enables the customers to make their preliminary order placing process online and to track down the status of their order online. One of the especial features of OSMS is facilitating a common platform for customers, suppliers and staff to communicate each other. Object oriented techniques with UML were used to analyze and design the system. The development process was preliminary based on the Rational Unified Process. HTML5 was used as the markup language. CSS3 was used for consistent styling of the entire application. PHP was used for the server side scripting and JavaScript, jQuery and AJAX for the client side scripting. MySQL was used as the DBMS of the system. OSMS is a web-based system, developed on the client-server, MVC architecture. OSMS would improve the efficiency and productivity of the daily functions of the business, and also would strengthen the suppliers-business-customers relationship which leads to add competitive advantage to the business in its future progress.
