College Management System For Ruwanpura National College of Education

Abstract

Ruwanpura National College of Education (RNCoE) is the place where quality, competent and committed ICT and Primary teachers are produced to the national education system of Sri Lanka. Since before its formal establishment in year 2009 as an ICT college, RNCoE has been using manual systems to complete most of their tasks. After recruiting a new batch of teacher trainees to the RNCoE, all the data of each and every prospective teacher are handled manually until they step into the school system as teachers. Mainly as an ICT centered college, to overcome this difficulty and provide an improved service to its administration and also the working staff, RNCoE was interested in developing an application based system that facilitates many of its functions. Therefore, the administration of RNCoE has come across to a conclusion to upgrade the current manual system to a computerized system which can manage details of academic and non-academic staffs, teaching practices programs, class scheduling, internal and external exams with assessments and other administrative functions in order to obtain fullest benefit of modern computer technology for day to day operations. The proposed system for RNCoE is an application based system, which has been implemented using visual Studio 2010 as the IDE and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 as the database server. The coding of the system was done using the C# programming language and the .NET framework while the inbuilt reporting tool in Visual Studio 2010 was used to generate reports. The application based system consists of many functions to cover most of the activities carried out by the RNCoE such as Academic (lecturers and teacher trainees) and non-academic staff recruiting and handling their details, Handling internship teacher trainee details, Classroom scheduling, Teacher trainee attendance handling, Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities handling, Managing internal and external exam results. The solution system in Windows based application development will helpful to have an effective and efficient progress in current operations done by manually in Ruwanpura National College of education.
