Information Communication Technology plays a vital role in these days. Computer based information systems are widely introducing all the sectors. But most of the schools still using manual system to store and process their information. St.Xaviers Boys College is one of the leading national school in Mannar district. So many data frequently ask by the various institutions such as Zonal Education Departments, Provincial Education Department and the Ministry of Education in various forms. So there should be a proper mechanism to manage their day to day activities, which has been handled with heavy paper work currently and which will be inefficient and time wasting. As a solution we can get an aid from the information technology. School Management system is emerged to reduce these problems and will increase the competency and efficiency of their work Therefore, they have decided to develop an efficient and error - free automation system for the office operations of the school. This system has provided many facilities such as students registration, teachers registration, computers registration, manage staff leave details, manage class details, managing income and expenses and generate various kind of reports to the right time etc. The proposed system will assist the school in reducing time consuming, increasing the efficiency of officials and teachers and make available information of records up to date. This system is developed with a graphics style user interface for the School administrative staff to access the information they need. This system is designed using the structured analysis and designed techniques and developed using Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2008, SQL Server was used as the database tool for designing the database. Additionally, Adobe Photoshop CS5 was chosen as the interface designing tool in the main stages of the developing. This combination ensures a high portability to develop the system. At the end of this development process, the windows based system which was tested by many users of the school, was successfully handed over to the client to enhance their day-to-day activities as well as to help the school to reduce the unwanted burden of the administrative work and carry out their work smoothly.
