Abstract: Matrix Institute of Information Technology (Pvt) Ltd is an educational institute established in 2006. It offers a wide range of courses, ranging from certification to diplomas, degrees and post-graduate qualifications. In 2010 Matrix formed a development team to do external and internal projects. There is no system to check employees effort in the development team and the lecture panel. The present timecard attendance system does not give a proper idea of the work employees do on a daily basis. Sometimes employees in the development team need to go out to gather requirements. In such a case they do not have a system to enter what they are doing when not in office during working hours. Matrix also does not have an accurate system to manage employees overtime hours. They have a manual system to calculate OT hours. The web-based Time Tracker System (TTS) is developed to overcome some problems and inefficiencies in the present manual system and in the attendance system. The TTS is built to record all employees billable and non-billable hours. With these records Matrix can bill their clients according to the hours employees spend on that project. If there are changes which were not in the original agreement, Matrix can charge extra from clients as per TTS logs. With TTS managing time is very easy; at the end of the day senior management can view what their employees have done on a particular day. If there is any doubt about a task someone has done, senior management can reject that particular entry with a comment. When senior management rejects an entry it will be returned to the employee with comments. Employees can then amend and re-send the entry for approval. TTS is a mobile compatible system, developed so employees can enter time from anywhere. It is developed using modern open-source tools and software. PHP, a powerful server side scripting language, is used for server-side scripting along with the Apache web server and MySQL, which is a relational database management system.
