LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR KARAINAGAR PRADESHIYA SABHA

Abstract

Today, Information technology is part and parcel of every sector. Some sectors use commercial off the shelf software products while some other sectors use tailor made software for their operations. Even though there are several library management system softwares available in the market, Karainagar Pradeshiya Sabha preferred to implement tailor made software for their library management operations because, they could have a system having only required functionalities for their operations and giving me an opportunity to choose KPS LMS for BIT degree program final year project. Resourceful library has an important role to form a knowledgeable society. Karainagar Pradeshiya Sabha library is the only one public library in this village. It has a lot of members, big catalogue store and do lot of transactions like lending, returning, renewal and reservations every day. Currently they totally depend on paper works and traditional communication system, which makes slow operation process, giving more workload and reduce the interactions between members and the library. As result of implementing this LMS web application will make sure to solve above given drawbacks of current manual operation. Further those as LMS is a web application; provide a centralized solution for every level of users, such as administrator, librarians and members The whole process of this product goes through the SDLC stages. Process begins with thes fact finding and ends with an implementation. Used some fact finding techniques to gather information, UML diagrams used to draw design of the system and chosen WAMP 2.2 software package in the Windows 7 operating system platform to develop the system. WAMP 2.2 bundled all the required components. It has PHP 5.3 used for server side scripting, MySQL used for database management and Apache server to run the application. In addition to this package used some other software also. Such as, MS Visio 2013 to illustrate design phase, MySQL Workbench 6.0 to make database relationship diagram and some other utility softwares.
