Abstract: Sri Lanka Hotel industry has been commenced since gaining independence from the British in 1947. There are many hotels spread all around the island has created the huge competition among the hoteliers in the business world. Siyanra Beach Resort which started recently in coastal area of south west belongs to Weligama district will have to face this competition well to survive in the market. Currently they are running a manual system to the reservation for their customers. As a result administration was facing problem of phone calls misunderstandings, inefficient monitoring of rooms availability etc. The web based reservation system is built to overcome the problems of the manual system and do the reservations process more effectively and efficiently. Online reservation system allows local and foreign guest to do reservation of their preference in a very convenient manner from any location saving the time. The proposed reservation system is a web based system. This solution will aid the main interface for the guests to do the reservation of rooms. As well as it is covered the administration process of updating the data regarding the packages of the system. Quickly generating reports of the availability of rooms is one of the main features of the system. The proposed system has been developed according to the Rational Unified Process and which support object orientation. The online hotel reservation system has been implemented using the Visual Studio as the IDE. Coding was done by the C# programming language and the .NET framework. The data base was handled using the SQL server 2005.Images were designed and edited by the Photoshop and flash. Argo UML was used to design the UML diagrams as the shown in the dissertation. Profit will be maximized which fulfills the administration requirements and the customer could be met with their requirements through the new web based reservation system.
