Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: Jeewya Medical Center is the leading Health and Medical Services provider in the Pamunugama region. It provides a wide range of facilities from consultation of doctors to various laboratory experiments. As the business grew with the increase in the number of patients who pay visits to the medical center and the number of doctors available for consultation, the manual system that existed and managed the business activities so far, started to show signs of inefficiency. Being the most trusted medical services provider in the area for more than a decade, Jeewya Medical Center shows a claim of a future with a promise of success. Due to all these reasons the management has decided to implement a Computerized System. The Health Administration System is a web based solution designed to address the above mentioned need and also help the staff members and doctors to provide a more efficient and effective service to the patients. Also this system will facilitate the patients with the functionality of viewing test reports and prescriptions online saving them from the trouble of travelling to the medical center a couple of times. Further the patients are given the benefit of analyzing their own medical performance. Doctors will be relieved of calculating and analyzing the current business statistics and making important decisions about future trends. Effective communication among patients, doctors and administration will also be assured via this online system. This system is built using the Rational Unified Process (RUP) system development methodology due to its iterative and incremental development nature. Object Oriented concepts as well as UML diagrams have been broadly used in designing the system. Web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript have been used in the development of the system and MySQL database management system was used to store data. WAMP server operating on a windows platform has been used for development and testing but the system operation is platform independent. The users can access the system via a JavaScript enabled web browser. Before implementation the system was subjected to a series of tests with a set of system users selected at random disregarding their IT literacy, and was proved quite successful. With this system in operation, Jeewya Medical Center is confident that they will gain a competitive advantage among the similar service providers in the district.
