Title: INTERACTIVE HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR MERMAID BEACH COTTAGE

Abstract:  Mermaid Beach cottage is such a restaurant that caught the eye of many foreign and local tourists, situated on Colombo Galle Rd facing the beach at Benthota. It is a middle level restaurant which has been lying for the past decade. Also recommended by tourists on trip advisor . The process of the restaurant is currently being handled using a paper based system. Reservations made are entered on a paper based system. Due to this unnecessary data duplication redundancy occurs. The paper work can be subjected to damage and there is no backup system. Factors such as data inaccuracy and impediment can occur. Therefore the process is also slow. Due to the slowness of the system, reports should be made manually. Even they cannot be obtained in a timely manner. Since they are upgrading their rooms, maintaining keys has become difficult for them. A room needs to have more than two keys in case a key is lost or damaged. As the number of rooms are to increasing. It is an extra overhead to take care of keys. Also the website which is an icon for any company or organization is partially developed and is not suitable for use. Lack of attraction power in the interface and lack of content and features might cause a misunderstanding in the customers. Customers prefer to make reservations online. So it should be available as a feature on the website. These problems are to be addressed using a web based system and an electronic control system for rooms. And also, new features are to be introduced. The system is to be created according to Object Oriented techniques. Unified Modeling Language (UML) is to be used for analysis and design. As the development technology PHP Hypertext preprocessor is used along with other web technologies such as HTML, CSS, AJAX, JavaScript, JQuery are to be used for interface designing. Databases are done using MySQL. The Arduino electronic prototyping platform is to be used to solve the problem of the room door-locks along with the language processing. Further, Dreamweaver, Netbeans and Visual Studio along with Arduino IDE are used as IDEs to develop the system. With the new proposed system, Mermaid Beach Cottage can step into whole new level in tourism by overcoming the current problems and the new features to be introduced.
