Abstract: The library of Jaffna College Institute of Technology (JCIT) has been running on a manual system since its initiation but in the modern world where time is a precious commodity, it is fast becoming inefficient and effort consuming due to the increase in membership and a large volume of titles. This library Management System is mainly used by Librarian and is able to manage all daily activities and members, books details. In the real world, the time is most impotent and it?s going fast. So that, want to finish every activities in short period. The automated Library Management System is provide fast to complete the activities like searching for books, registering members, maintaining the Library catalogue, Update records and edit information, delete records and generating reports. This proposed system is included problem definition, requirement analysis, system design, coding and Unit testing, integration and system testing, system maintenance, documentation. Requirement analysis is a stage to gather the user requirement such as functional and non-functional requirements; the system design is mainly used to design the user interface and database design. After complete coding part, system testing to reduce the system bug. The project was implemented by Visual Studio 2008 and SQL server 2008 is used as the database. Visual Studio?s own reporting tool was used for report generation. In addition, Rational Rose and MS Visio were used to draw the UML diagrams shown in this dissertation. At the end of this project a standalone application that met the client requirements was successfully implemented and installed at the client computer.
