Abstract: Inventory and Stock Management System is most important for Government or Private organizations for their works or services such as orders, for purchase of goods, control of stock, sales, etc. Organizations mandatory part is accountability and reporting to management to take decisions day by day. Most of the show rooms & Shops in Jaffna are still in the initial phase of adopting information technology into their Inventory and accounting management system. The Chenthuran Electricals & Hardware, Jaffna is a private business organization. Presently having a manual, paper based Stock Management System is used to maintain the day to day transactions. Therefore, the scope of this project is to deliver an efficient and effective Stock Management System for Chenthuran Electricals & Hardware, Jaffna to handle the day to day transactions such as sales, stock maintenance, orders for purchase, and generating timely, weekly, monthly and yearly reports and preparing the summary. This system will help to give an improved customer service. The Stock Management software was developed using Microsoft Visual Studio.Net 2008 as programming Language, Microsoft .NET Frame Work Vision 3.5 and Microsoft SQL server 2008 as the database management System in the Windows environment. The structured design techniques are used to design the system. This Stock Management System is essential to the Chenthuran Electricals & Hardware in Jaffna to efficiently handle the Hardware Stores stock maintenance through re-order alert messages and its proper supplier wise purchase order reports and some basic accounting operations such as Cheque deposit alerts, daily sales reports and bills summary. The system also has the database backup and dynamic help facilities. The project should be lower in cost and completed within a scheduled period. And in the SMS-SEH, this is also achieved successfully.
