Web Based Pawning Management System for Bank of Ceylon

Abstract

Pawning is one of the major businesses in Banking Industry today. It is providing loan facilities against pledge of gold articles. Bank of Ceylon provides Pawning facility to the customers with their brand name Ran Surekum Naya Sewa . Bank of Ceylon currently using a standalone system to provide pawning facility to their customers. To compete with other banks and financial institutes which providing pawning facility, Bank of Ceylon must have an efficient and effective system which has more features than the existing system. Proposed Web based Pawning Management system has more functions than the existing standalone system. It is a Graphical User Interfaced system and it can be accessed through intranet. It provides the capability to access the system only for authorized persons with more security. Payments can be done at any branch and inquiries can be made by logging in to the system with provided user name and password. Also there is a feature to approve or decline payments when granting a new pawning facility. System fulfilled different functional areas such as user control, pawning module, Redeem and part payment module customer registration module, document approval module etc. Sending Email notifications for past due payments is another feature of this system. Object-oriented methods and several development tools are used to design and develop the system. The system is implemented using JAVA/J2EE (Core Java, Servlet/ JSP) programming languages, XHTML, XML, CSS, AJAX, JavaScript web technologies, MYSQL and Glassfish server. At the end of this project a web based system that met the client requirements is successfully implemented and installed at the client computer.
