MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR STEEL MOBILE (PVT) LTD

Abstract

Steel Mobile Company (PVT) Ltd is an authorized dealer for the distribution of the products and services of Mobitel which is the largest network service provider in Sri Lanka. Steel Mobile purchases the service related products from Mobitel and distribute it to the customers belonging to their area which is allocated by Mobitel. It should cover around 750 communications and shops within every week of the month. Inventory, purchase, sales and customer management are handled manually which is less effective and inefficient which results in loss of records and inconsistent documentation. Because of the poorly maintained inventory, the company faces the difficulty of supplying of products to customers continuously and it fails to monitor fast and slow moving items actively by the time which leads to purchase more than the required quantities of slow moving items than fast moving items. It is difficult to supply for the increased demands because of the absence of a proper method to identify the needs. Staffs are discouraged, hence could not carry out their works on time and the management faces the difficulty of making timely decisions. These problems are some of the reasons to indirectly increase the expenses and resource wastages. The management of Steel Mobile decided to transform the current manual system into a computer based management system. This will be the solution to resolve their problems. This IT based system should cover stock management, staff management, sales management, purchase management and other business functions at the company premises which were initially carried out by the manual system. To build the proposed system, MVC architecture has been adapted, which stands for Model, View and Controller. And it uses PHP as the server side scripting language and MySQL for the implementation of the database. NetBeans is used as the IDE. The requirement analysis, design and the development of this system was achieved through various object oriented techniques. System was successfully implemented to overcome the existing problems and to make the business processes effective and efficient, thereby reducing the time that was taken by the previous manual system.
