Authors: Mariyam, R.A.
Issue Date: 16-May-2015
Abstract: New Fishco is new by name, but old by means of functioning. A pet shop venture, which was established in the mid 80 s, and has been functioning since then, building a customer base with a firm grip on providing services beyond satisfaction. Even though this was possible throughout the past years, a question arose, whether New Fishco can provide its services while maintaining its reputation, without collaborating with Information Technology, as it is one of the giant in a business setting. New Fishco was running on the wheels of de trop amount of paper work which resulted in excessive maintenance cost, data redundancy and it was highly error prone. EPBS has two main aspects. It has laid its main focus on administrating the critical management processors of New Fishco, with minimal effort and maximum throughput and also taking the pet shop business a step ahead by opening up an e-commerce avenue. The functions of EPBS can be outlined as catalog management, sales and inventory management, appointments handling, cash flow management, providing timely reports and running an e-commerce site with functions that ensures the customers a better shopping experience. Customers can engage with the business activities despite of time, location and other factors. On the other hand, management of the business activities are intended to run on a web based environment, where the pillars of the system are centralized. The design of the project is highly related to object oriented concepts with the use of UML (Unified modeling language). The system has been developed with the choice of Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) for server side scripting and technologies such as JavaScript and JQuery for the client side. Apache has been used as the web server and MySQL was used to handle databases. EPBS is being built with the main intention of breaking free from inefficient practices of the business which were indeed factors which pull down the venture a great deal. Establishment of an E-commerce chapter of the business will undoubtedly increase the revenue of the business as it is the current trend. Win-win is wanted to be won, and EPBS will make it a reality.
