Inventory Management & Distribution System for Union Dispensary (Pvt) Ltd

Abstract

Union Dispensary (Pvt) Ltd is the leading retail and stock sellers in pharmaceuticals, surgical consumable items, laboratory chemicals and equipment trade in down south Sri Lanka since 1956. In 1971 when State Pharmaceutical Cooperation (SPC) established, Union Dispensary (Pvt) Ltd became the sole distributor of SPC products in Matara District and in 90 s it was rewarded as a Franchise Agent for SPC products. Union Dispensary (Pvt) Ltd have large warehouses to store their stocks. Union Dispensary (Pvt) Ltd does their activities still manually. Manage product details, Manage payment functionality, Manage orders, Manage dealers, Manage suppliers, and maintain stock records, details about distribution are some of those functionalities. It have several drawbacks and not an efficient way. As a solution Mr. Susil Piyaratne, the Managing Director of the organization decided to combine Information Technology with inventory management and Distribution functions and to make a system to gain the advantages in technology to improve the manual functions. The system tends to make inventory management and distribution processes more efficient with less man power. The requirement analysis, design and the development of this system was achieved through object oriented techniques and UML diagrams were used to analyze the requirements and to draw the design. The architecture used for the system is MVC architecture, which stands for model, view and controller . The system allow to access and see what does doing in his shop to the owner of the business. According to that situation web base system is the most suitable therefore system is modelled using Unified Modelling language (UML) and PHP server side scripting language was used to develop the system while MySQL was used to implement the database. XAMPP server was used to develop the system. AJAX, Java Scripts, XHTML, CSS are other technologies that are used in development. XAMPP server was used to develop the system. The new system has been developed to overcome the existing problems and make the Inventory Management and distribution processes effective and efficient.
