Information System for Bandara Enterprises

Abstract

As a very successful business in past 6 years in retail industry in UVA province of Sri Lanka; Bandara Enterprises requires web based Information system to fulfill their valued customer service. The Current system is manual and use Microsoft office package for data processing. This method is very time consuming and it make staff extra work. The staff have to document everything in the business and it impacts the company's daily processes. Current system could not handle large amount of data & highly inflexible, Business continuity is at risk in case of damage to information and analysis data is very difficult. Therefore the objective of this project was to design and develop a system that provides a solution to solve existing issues, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the whole processes and mitigate the risk. After carefully analyzing the requirements, a new web based Information System was proposed and designed. The proposed system will automatically monitor the customers, internal users as well as inventory, provide information on inventory and provide information about customer . System was implemented using various tools. Joomla (content management system) used as main tool to develop the system.PHP language was used for development, Apache was used as web server and MYSQL handles the database components. The entire application could be viewed using the Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Crome web browsers on Windows platform. Apart from the implementation, the development practice included a proper Quality Assurance process, user training sessions, and Video demonstration to improve the benefits of the system. An information system is an imperative requirement which is directly affect customer satisfactions and the business progress. Therefore, it is essential to establish and enforce a proper system that will serve as a tool in utilizing processes in the most efficient manner.
