Authors: Chandana, K.W.S.
Issue Date: 30-Oct-2014
Abstract: Drowsiness is one of the major causes of road accidents and can lead to severe physical injuries, deaths and significant economic losses. Statistics indicate the need of a reliable driver drowsiness detection system which could alert the driver before an accident happens. Researches have been done to determine driver drowsiness using the several measures like vehicle-based measures, behavioral measures, and physiological measures. In this project it is expected to build a system to detect and warn the driver based on behavioral measures like eye closure of the driver just before fall to sleep. System is based on a smartphone with external IR capable WIFI camera. Drivers who ware spectacles are not considered in this project scope. Main focus on this project is exploring fast real-time algorithms which is suitable for a smart phone which resources may low compared with computers.
