dc.description.abstractSince the existing systems are highly critical for the continuation of their business most of the enterprises at present find that moving from legacy system to a new Enterprise environment involves a calculated amount of risk, a high cost and many other resources. This project targets these legacy systems and processes which will migrate these systems to a Service Oriented Platform. The main problem I have addressed is how to migrate these legacy systems for Service Oriented Architecture. Mainly it pinpoints on existing systems with other architectures apart from Service Oriented Architecture. Specially I have focused on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) since it accommodates rapid changes in the business environment compared to other architectures. The main objective is to identify migration processes. Service reusability, autonomy, discoverability are some of the advantages of SOA which is emphasized throughout the discussion. Approach used during this project is to evaluated one scenario which exemplifies about a leading online retailer where their core business is based on a legacy system, and a solution (a developed system) which simulates migrating legacy systems/resources to a new Service Oriented Architectural platform. Using that scenario I have briefly explained how the existing code can be wrapped as services and use them in other systems. The developed system that aligns with the project scope I have simulated the methodology in migrating legacy components /resources to a Service Oriented Platform and how other 3rd party legacy systems integrated in a SOA platform. Based on the above mentioned scenario and the solution, my discussion thoroughly pinpoints the alternatives and methods on how we can reuse existing systems and resources whilst reducing the cost and risk. As a result I have evaluated three Re-engineering processes which define how legacy systems can be migrated to Service Oriented Architectural Platform. Finally I have discussed how successful the migration processes were, and a Feasibility study describing some of the activities prior to a migration, and how we could minimize the changes in a legacy system during a migration process. Reusing functionality in a service level, minimizing the data migration process and SOA test beds have been left for the future research work.en_US
