Abstract: Perera Pharmacy is mainly involved in distributing pharmaceutical products in southern area for over 20 years. The company is working as an agent for about 17 leading health care companies in Sri Lanka such as Hemas Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Astron Ltd, and Mega Pharma etc. More than 50 employees are employed in the company. As a growing company they wanted to increase the efficiency of their day to day activities. With their existing manual paper based system, it is very difficult to handle day to day routine. Since efficiency is a must for all businesses they too intend to be efficient and smooth. This is the reason why an idea of a computer based system came up. The proposed system is intended to provide an IT based solution to handle their business process in an efficient manner than before. The main goal of the proposed system is to overcome some of major problems of existing manual system such as inefficiency and lack of accuracy. The proposed system is a desktop application with a rich user interface. Object oriented techniques were used to model the system with UML (Unified Modelling Language) and Star UML is used to draw UML diagrams. Mainly Microsoft technologies are used to develop the system. Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 is used as the IDE with VB.NET as the programming language. Microsoft Access 2003 is used as the back end database. Crystal reports is used to create reports. The ultimate goals of the system are to provide a reliable and efficient software product to run day to day business activities of Perera Pharmacy efficiently and smoothly and make a better working environment to their staff.
