Web Based Student Management System for Informatics Institute of Technology - Colombo Branch

Abstract

The Student Management process of Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) Colombo branch is done manually. The current system has major drawbacks which affects to the enhancement and efficiency of the operation. The main goal of the proposed system is to minimize the time wastage that occurs in the current manual system as well as to make the process more efficient through various modules of the system. These modules are student registration, student payments, course management (batches and payment plans), student attendance, student assignment, SMS notifications and reports. Also a public accessible web site is used to provide details about courses, batches and upcoming events within the institute to outside. The proposed project is a web based system. It developed according to the Rational Unified Model (R.U.P) framework which supports Object Oriented and iterative development. To develop the proposed system several technologies were used. These are WAMP Server which is a combination of Apache web server, PHP and MySQL. MySQL is a relational database management system and PHP is a powerful server side scripting language. Along with JavaScript, CSS, jQuery and AJAX languages, tools like Dreamweaver, phpMyAdmin and Adobe Photoshop are used to design web pages, database and pictures used in the web site. Finally the developed system properly tested to make system errorless and implemented successfully within the client premises.
