Issue Date: 22-Jul-2014
Abstract: MIRISHENA estate is a rubber estate belongs to Horana Plantations PLC which is managed by Ceytea Plantations Management LTD. The Estate factory focuses on manufacturing crepe specialized rubber and has a product capacity of 480Kg per day or 175,000Kg per year. Estate factory is solely functioned with the latex bought by suppliers. Although rubber production is modernized documentation is done manually. A manual file system and report generating system has become a huge problem because it is error prone, time consuming and inaccurate results are produced. Timely report generation is a problem because of the heavy data to be fed manually. And also managerial personnel find it hard to access to required information unless they are in the factory premises. Web Based Factory Management System was build in order to overcome the difficulties faced by a manual system. This project covers almost all administrative areas of the factory such as sales management, purchase management, human resources management, dispatch, stock management as well as report generation. Since it is a web based system authorized people are given the opportunity to view and access the system from anywhere. The proposed system was developed according to the Rational Unified Process (RUP) framework which supports Object Orientation and iterative development. This system has adapted object oriented techniques. Unified Modeling Language (UML) has been used for analysis and design. Hypertext Pre-Processor (PHP) which is a server side scripting language has been used to build along with MySQL to handle databases. Wampserver is used as the web server. Since it is a web based system any operating system, Linux or Windows can be used to operate this system. The web based system has been able to successfully overcome the problems rubber factory staffs faced when using a manual system. User requirements were met and it was successful in providing the management and the staff with a reliable satisfactory system which has been able to maximize the efficiency of the overall factory. This dissertation is written aiming general users who wants to know about the system. But this could be used as a user manual for the technical staff who wants to operate the system.
