Title: Student Enlistment System For General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University

Abstract: General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) is one of the prestigious military universities in South Asian region. Its aim is to groom young officer cadets to so as to best serve the Tri-Services of Sri Lanka (Army, Navy and Air Force). Selecting candidates to the degree is very huge process. Three different interviews are conducted in order to select the suitable candidates for degree programmes. The cadet enlistment is a very broad task which is done manually by the current staff. It takes a long time to process this function and there will be errors while doing enlistment process in manually. By automating student enlistment process, the university can find better solutions for above drawbacks in the current process and offering an effective and efficient service. Some of main functions of the system were: user will be able to input, update candidate details and sort their applications to corresponding degrees, input the interview schedules and interview marks. Interview schedule will be sent through e mail to candidates. Reporting module also one of main function in this system, user can get many reports as their preference. The authorized user can use all of the System s functionality. Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 was used to implement the system in PHP language with the assistance of MySQL in the Windows environment and also Adobe Photoshop CS5 was used to design interfaces. Unified Modeling Language was used in the analysis and design stages of the project and implementing, evolution and conclusion sections will be finished in future. Through accomplishing functional and non-functional objectives of the project, this system will be given an effective functioning procedure with user friendly environment. Documentation was helped to offer clear explanation of the work done so far during the period of developing any computer based software. This document was consisted brief introduction about all the sections that I met while developing this system.
