Authors: Petikiriarachchi, S.
Issue Date: 22-Jul-2014
Abstract: The main aim of the project is the management of fixed assets that belongs to Matrix Institute of Information Technology. Currently the client does not have any electronic system that records or manages data regarding the fixed assets of the company. The client records all said data manually in registers. Because of the manual system used in the organization, it is difficult to search records, manage, update and there is no systematic way of identifying or assessing the assets. Therefore to simplify the process and to be more productive in asset management, proposed asset management system will be developed and implemented. This will be a computerized software that handles all functions related to asset management of the organization. Scope of this system will include recording data of fixed assets, management of assets and cost. As the software development life cycle model, Rational Unified Process (RUP) was identified as the most suitable methodology for this project. Iterative development, requirements management, component based architecture, visual modeling (using UML), comprehensive quality assurance and monitoring was used as the main features of RUP. This system is being developed using VB.NET as the programming language and Microsoft SQL Server as the database system in Windows platform. Windows forms are being used as the user interface. The system designed and works as a client server architecture. Testing was carried out in the development environment as well as user environment in order to make sure all requirements are fulfilled and system is error free. Asset management system was successfully implemented in the user environment and is used to manage organizations assets in the best possible way.
