Abstract: Chikosa (Pvt) Ltd is a wholesale distributor for Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), distributes 22 varieties of biscuits and chocolates to over 200 retailers and super markets around Colombo. With the significant growing demand of consumer public, company is trying to cater for that demand and expansion of the business. Inventory, sales, purchase and expenditure management handled manually which is inefficient, less effective, loss of records and inconsistent documentation. Because of the poorly maintained inventory, faced difficulty of continuous supply of goods to customers and failed to actively monitor fast and slow moving items, which lead to purchase, more than the required quantities of slow moving items over fast moving items hence money is tied up to the inventory. Difficulty to cater increased demands than usual because of no proper method to get orders in advance. Monitoring creditors and debtors was difficult hence accounts receivable not collected on time and difficulty to keep track of the expenses. Staff de-motivated hence, staff could not carry out their tasks on time and management faced difficulty of making effective decisions on time. These problems indirectly increased the expenses and resource wastage. Developing a web based system is the best solution to overcome these problems which acts as a barrier in succeeding the company objectives. This solution covers Inventory management, online order processing, regular sales management, creditors? and debtors? accounts management, purchase management and business reports. To build the system, adapted MVC architecture and object oriented techniques, PHP as the server-side scripting language and Apache server as the web server. MySQL relational database management system used to handle databases, NetBeans used as the IDE. UML used for analysis and design System can be used with any currently available browser under Microsoft windows XP or upwards operating systems. System was successfully implemented, evaluated conducted a user survey and positively accepted by the users and fully functional, satisfies and fulfills the requirements of Chikosa (Pvt) Ltd.
