Authors: Jayarathna, N.N.
Issue Date: 22-Jul-2014
Abstract: Consumer Affairs Authority receives complaints on a wide range of products and services. The Authority can inquire into complaints on goods as well as services. Authority carries out investigations based either upon its own motion or on any complaint/request made by any consumer or organization of consumers. Individual consumer or any organization of consumers can make complaints or can provide information or erroneous trade practices. Many of the matters under dispute have been settled either through direct written communication or through discussion and verbal negotiation with the relevant parties to the dispute. Authority regularly conducts raids on trade related offences to ensure the compliance by traders regarding the orders and directions made by the authority. These raids have created a large impact on controlling the behavior of traders to safeguard the rights of consumers. Offenders and goods that are taken into the custody during raids are produced to courts and offenders are punished according to the provisions of the act. Proposed system which I have selected is a web based solution to be designed and developed at the client organization, using centralized database to provide information to the right person at the right time. The Software Development Life Cycle which I have selected is Rapid Application Development (RAD). The design methodology is Structured Software Analysis and Design. Automated Web Application for Marketing Investigations & Raids (iRaid) was developed in PHP and Apache HTTP Server as the web server. Client side validations were done by using JavaScript. MySQL used as the Database Management System. Macromedia Dreamweaver used to code editing. Unit testing are done in the same environment while developing and the testing ensures that the system is a validate system. Purpose of this project is to assist CAA (Consumer Affairs Authority) in solving the problems faced and to provide an effective and efficient solution for the problems faced.
