Title: GYNAECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS UNIT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR BASE HOSPITAL KAHAWATTA

Abstract: Base Hospital Kahawatta belongs to Rathnapura district and it is a government hospital. which was established to provide better service to their patients. Currently the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit has been using manual systems to complete most of their tasks. they used several software packages for tasks such as record keeping and report generation. since the interoperability of those programs was not adequate, they have to waste many work-hours by repeatedly entering the same data to different programs. To overcome this difficulty and provide an improved service to patients the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit was interested in a new standalone system. The new standalone system consist of many functions to cover most of the activities carried out by the Unit such as Patient Registration, Staff Registration, Staff Roster Management, Drug Inventory, Patient Clinic Appointments, Surgery data Maintenance, Periodic health traffic tracking, Most importantly the System provides various timely and accurate reports for Doctors and Administrator to make better decisions regarding the Unit. For Security purpose the system can be accessed by internal staff only. The developed system for base hospital kahawatta is a standalone system, which adapted the 3-tier architecture with object oriented environment. The system is being developed using Microsoft visual studio 2008 as the IDE and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as the database server. All coding were written in C Sharp .net. it was decided to use object oriented analysis and design, Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagrams were used to analyze the requirements and to draw the design, in lieu of that RUP was adapted for development of the system. In addition to that object oriented methodology was chosen to support RUP. reports were generated by crystal report generator in .net framework, in addition to that rational rose and gliffy tool were being used to draw the UML diagrams. System will run on windows Operating system. System is tested well to ensure the reliability and proper back up methodologies are used in case of accidental loss of data and to restore the systems immediately. This system will help to efficiently and effectively do tasks.
