WEB-BASED STUDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR SONIC HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTE

Abstract

Upgrading the computer information system is not an option in this technology-driven era; it is a requirement. Companies that use an up-to-date information system to gather, assimilate, and evaluate internal as well as external information, are gaining competitive advantage over other firms. Student management systems are designed for better interaction between students, lecturers, parents and the management. This management software very gracefully handles all the requirements for effective student management. The student management system being web based can be accessed from anywhere in the world, which enables the students, lecturers, parents and the management to be in touch with each other at all times. Sonic Higher Education Institute (SHEI) is a one of the large education institutes which conducts tuition classes for the school children and school leavers in Horana area. The institute management needs to start new phase of their business by automating the main processes carried out by them such as student registration, payments handling of students, payroll management of lecturers and other supporting staff, information sharing process etc. The developed web based management system aids all these processes by reducing time, cost and increasing the security of records. The system consists of the web site for SHEI and its management system. It is possible to manage courses , support for profile based management of administrator, lecturers and students , online lecturer and student registration , allow students to course enrollment, allow lecturers to manage students attendance etc by authorized personnel to gain access to the Management System via the SHEI web site. This web based management system is developed using PHP which is a powerful server-side scripting language, and Apache as the web server. MySQL is used as the Database Management System.
