Centralized Stock and Order Processing System For Ceylinco Insurance PLC - Life

Abstract

The centralized stock and ordering process was carried out manually by Ceylinco Insurance PLC Life (CIL) from the inception of its business to the general public. With the expansion of its island wide branch network, managing same was not an easy task. The company had to deal with so many suppliers of stationary and gift items, also maintain centralized stores with manual filing system. Maintaining of manual documents could lead to human errors misplace of documents or frauds when handling large amounts of transaction daily. Therefore a fully automated browser based system was proposes to CIL. The web based application was plugged in to the CIL corporate intranet with user level access controls. The transactions were updated on real time basis enabling the management to make quick decision on the gift and stationary in-flow and out-flow within the organization. The system has been developed based on client-server architecture using Object Oriented concepts with Rational Unified Process (RUP). The technology used to develop the system was C# .NET and Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2. The system works on Windows 2008 Standard Server with Internet Information Server 7.0 (IIS). The CIL over 180 branches are connected through 64KB communication channel with Windows XP at the client. Outcome of the project is a web based application system with simultaneous access to users spread over the Island wide branches connected to a centralized server, maintained by the Head Office of CIL. Centralized Stock and Order Processing System (COPS) streamlined the process while increasing the efficiency.
