Web Based Distribution Management System For Wayamba Seeds (pvt) ltd.

Abstract

Today, information is the highest valuable asset in any kind of business activity, and importation and distribution of seeds industry is no exception. Information about requisition for importing seeds, storage and stock distribution is essential to be maintained properly to be a good competitor in this competitive business environment. Wayamba seeds (pvt) ltd is an agricultural seeds importing and distributing company located in Maho. They import many kinds of seeds from international market and distribute them all over the island. As these kinds of businesses are spread all over the country, it is impossible to find fixed physical sales outlets. Distributors are always travelling and have to transfer information to the main controlling point daily. This information must be re-generated repeatedly to analyse business targets. Well-formatted several types of reports must be generated using those data. Web based distribution system, which will be described through this dissertation, was designed and implemented as a solution for certain types of problems addressed by businesses. This system completely covers all the steps from purchase requisition to distribution of imported seeds to customers. Main functionalities of the system can be list as bellow, Purchase requests, Generate Purchase orders through that purchase requests, Add good receives, Sales invoicing and collecting payments from customers, Accept returns from customers as well as from sales persons, Cost analysing for distribution, Report generation, etc. The UML (Unified Modelling Language) is used to sketch the blueprints of the system. The RUP (Rational Unified Process) is used as the system development methodology and object oriented system design is used to design the system. Meanwhile Netbeans 7.0.1 is the development IDE used for system development. Mainly this is a web based system developed using java developing language. JSP Servlets, MySQL and Tomcat server is the main developing technologies. Although this was developed on windows platform, thanks java, system will be host on Linux server with a domain name. This will be completely an open source software package. Client s requirements were successfully completed by developing the required system. Feedback from the users was the main factor to successful this system. Finally Wayamba seeds (Pvt) ltd management happy with this since they got what they want.
