Authors: Zanfer, W.M.H.M.
Issue Date: 22-Jul-2014
Abstract: Modcom (PVT) LTD is a leading educational institute and an IT service provider in Matara district. They have a work force of 35 employees and are currently expanding. Their main business functionalities include teaching computer courses, IT services such as typesetting, Internet and email. In addition to that, they also sell mobile phones and accessories. Since the business is expanding day by day, managing and keeping track of employee information have become tedious in the recent past. Since the most of company's staff are permanent staff, their performance evaluations need to be done in a transparent manner which would influence their salary increments and promotions which are done annually. The proposed system is expected to eliminate all paper work pertaining to employee management. It will capture information such as staff personal details, educational qualifications, skills, supervisors and subordinates. System also recognizes staff by their performance and helps the management to make high level decisions. Software will automate the performance review process and allow management make promotions and increments based on the reports. This is achieved by aligning organizational goals with the employees' Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The software keeps track of the employees' achievements against their KPIs, and allows the management to have a big picture on where each employee stands against the organizational goal. Proposed system was decided to implement as a web-based application. System is running in a LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP), and uses Symfony 1.4 as the base framework. Tools such as Net Beans, MYSQL Work Bench, PHPMYADMIN and Linux Terminal were used for the implementation. System was implemented according to the requirements and delivered to the client. They have evaluated the system and confirmed it fulfills their needs.
