Abstract: Hotel and Banquet industry is one of the majorly growing trends in Sri Lanka. As a result of that there are lots of banquet halls available in Sri Lanka. However, the Hotel Chance Palace is a leading banquet hall which is located in Gampaha, Sri Lanka. During past few years, the business of the Hotel Chance Palace has been increasing continuously. Due to manual event management, Chance Palace management has faced a great deal of inconvenience and scheduling conflicts. As a result, the management of the Hotel Chance Palace has decided to develop and implement a web based event management system to overcome most of these problems and enhance their efficiency. Rheostat is basically developed to manage the regular management procedures of the events carried out within the Hotel Chance Palace. This system is capable of User Registration, managing events, getting information about available events, sending emails to customers, managing invoices and viewing/managing status of event reports. Each person is provided with a username and a password in order for them to access the system. The system has adapted Object Oriented Concepts. In addition, Unified Modelling Language (UML) was used for analysis and design. This also contains the UML diagrams such as, Use-Case, Class, State and Sequence. The main programing language is PHP. The system has been implemented based on the Codeigniter frame work. MySQL is used as the database management system. Apache web server is used as the processing server. Java Script and jQuery have been used as the client side scripting languages. Boostrap has been used as the frontend framework which contains the HTML and CSS. A few open source libraries were used to enhance the systems features of the system such as pagination and search. Sending email notifications to the customers as well as the administrator is a unique feature in this system. This will be considered as the research and the development (R&D) part of this project.
