Abstract: Medisewana Private Hospital is one of the leading private health care providers in Mawanella city and around. They are providing a good and reliable service to their patients. Although they are successful in the market they seek to have a competitive advantage in the market by ensuring the better and an effective service by overcoming their barriers on their functionality and problems associated with the current system. The Web Based appointment reservation and Lab assistant system is built to overcome those barriers. The system in built to handle most of the day to day operations such as document handling, billing, reservations. This system facilitates the patients to make appointments online to channel the doctors, get information regarding their appointments, lab reports and other related information overtaking the geographical distance. The system is not only helpful the patient but also the staff and doctors to handle some of their activities on a computerized environment. The above mentioned web based system is designed according to object oriented Analysis and design techniques and Unified modelling language UML used to model the system. While the system is a web based solution the most powerful scripting language PHP has used for building up the logic of the system. A Mysql has used at the back end for the database handling. ApacheFriends XAMPP version 1.7.7 was used to implement a web server. A SMS gateway named Ozeki NG SMS gateway was integrated with the system to send SMS Adobe Dreamweaver CS 5, adobe Photoshop, FlySpeed SQL query builder are some of the developments tools used. The requirements of the system are gathered from the system users and other stakeholders of the system.
