Web Based Hotel Management System for Deshanee Rest & Reception Hall

Abstract

As a hotel focused on expanding its operations, Deshanee Rest & Reception Hall experienced limitations of carrying out operations manually. Deshanee Rest & Reception Hall is also the parent to its own small chain of hotels. They are approaching a partnership with an international chain of resorts to expand their growth further, all around the country. Therefore the lack of usage of technology hinder their development to a great extent. Tourism is a growing business and hotels are a favorite venue among people for special occasions as well. As a company employing over hundreds of employees the system is expected to address current problems they are suffering within the manual system and improved efficiency of operations, services. Their competitors already have automated operations through computer systems and hotel owners and management decided to conquer the need of a computer system. The development will be proceeded with Agile Unified Process which embraces iterative development and Unified Modeling Language for analysis, design. Especially, one of the AUP principle is that AUP has to be tailored into one s own needs. Thereby the flexibility AUP render is very helpful for agile process. Object oriented methodologies and Model, View, Controller architecture will be adopted as well. Web based system was chosen considering the benefits web based systems offer in over traditional desktop applications. Uses widely used and reputed open source technologies such as PHP and MySQL to build the system. Hence the platform independency, little pre-setup and anywhere access will give the system a competitive advantage. The system development cost is lesser than the existing hotel management software in the market. This is achieved by the heavy use of free and open source software.
