STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR OXFORD COLLEGE NAWALAPITIYA

Abstract

Student Information System for Oxford College was a project which was initiated to manage student information and other associative tasks of Oxford College Nawalapitiya. Oxford College is situated in Nawalapitiya and provides education for large number of students in the area. The goal of this project was to aid the institution to manage its various types of information in an effective and efficient manner and to enhance the quality and reliability of its day to day college management activities. The scope of the project is widely spread covering all the functionalities of the school which are performed by students, teachers, non-academic staff and administration. Functionality of the system can be divided into seven modules as Personal Information Management, School Progress Analyzing, Exam Management, Classroom Management, Student Payment Management, Messaging System and Events Management. Each module has improved functionalities as mentioned by its name. Not only that but also all the seven modules are capable of generating relevant report, charts and the analyzed information sheets. Major consideration was given to the result analysis which is functioning in two different levels, i.e. Students Level and Class Level. This system facilitates the necessities of all the stakeholders of the college. So that the system is designed in such a way that each and everyone could access the system conveniently at any time they require. A standalone system is not capable of facilitating this requirement of the stakeholders. Therefore a web based solution was developed to improve the utility of the potential users of the system. Several technologies were used in the implementation of this project. Open source technology PHP was used as the major language for server side programming also HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, Mysql and Open chart libraries were used as development technologies. Argo UML, GIMP, XAMPP and Netbeans IDE were used for the designing and the development of the system.
