Abstract: Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation Ltd. is a government owned organization functioning under the purview of the Ministry of Co-operatives and internal trade which has been in the business over more than 30 years whilst catering to both public and private sectors. It has an island wide dealer network and support infrastructure. The spread of products via a distribution system manned by sales and marketing staff has been the backbone of its service to the public. Sales and marketing staff plays a vital role within the organization as profit margins and the reputation of the organization are highly relied on their service and customer interactions. Because of the significance of marketing and sales staff, their performance has become a critical factor in terms of organizational performance. Administration is having complications in evaluating the performance of marketing and sales staff which is crucial in decision making. Currently this process is accomplished by analysing several manual reports and feedback. But it is evident that this approach is inefficient since it is more energy and time consuming. Even though few computerized systems serve the organization in its day-to-day operations, it lacks a proper marketing and sales personnel performance evaluation system. To address these issues STC is looking forward for a computerized employee performance evaluation system. Proposed system analyzes data captured from daily transactions to generate reports and information for managerial staff. For the convenience, system is implemented as a web based solution which will enable system access to users having no geographical boundaries. Varity of tools and technologies were used to implement this system. Object oriented design concepts were used to analyse business processes and Unified Modelling Language was used to illustrate them. Development was done using an iterative development method. PHP was used as the server side scripting language on Apache server and MySQL was the database management system used. System was developed on Windows environment. The utmost goal of implementing this system is to support administration in decision making and ultimately increase efficiency and profit margins of the organization.
