Abstract: Golden Gate International School was using paper based documentation system for performing various tasks which wastes manpower and much time unnecessarily that does not utilize the current technology. Due to the inefficiency of the current manual system, the need arises to automate SIMS in order to efficiently handle student related matters. The main goal of the proposed system is to minimized the time wastage that occur in the current manual system as well as make the process more efficient with reduce work load to each person who interact with the system. This Web Based Student Information Management System (WBSIMS) allows users to maintain almost all of the students, staff and parents information electronically. The Web Based Student Information Management System (WBSIMS) is designed and developed to overcome some problems and inefficiencies of the current manual system. This system covers overall management processes of the school, such as: Maintain the information of Student, Parent and Staff, Keeping records of Attendance, Managing Payments, Sending Notifications to Parents/Students via the System and E-mail, Preparing Class, Exam and Teachers Timetable and Report Generation. It also enables users to access from any part of the world. The Students and Parents can view necessary information such as Class Timetables, Exam Timetables, Notifications and Online Results. This WBSIMS has mostly been implemented using modern software and tools such as: PHP which is a popular and powerful sever side scripting language has been used for developing along with XAMPP 1.8.1 web server, MySQL 5.5.27, Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5. In addition Dia software used to draw Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagrams shown in this dissertation.
