Authors: Attidiya, P.D.H.
Issue Date: 19-Jun-2014
Abstract: This project has been done on behalf of the final individual project, which is a compulsory module of the third semester of MSc in Compute Science. Initially this project has been designed and developed as a prototype model for one of a group project held in second semester. That included some of the screen designs without data capturing and processing functionalities. (Data is directly setup in the database by execution of SQL scripts). This project is an extended version of above prototype module as a full functional bespoke package that covers the administration tasks related to student registration and examination procedures of the Institute of Indigenous Medicine (IIM). The main objectives of this project is to identifying key issues and drawbacks related to manual registration and examination activities at the administration department, design & develop a computer base information system to resolve the above issues by automating administrative activities at IIM. Implementation of this system would reduce the paper work, improve the overall productivity and efficiency, make available information on time, provide quick service and accurate output etc. The Student Registration & Examination Procedural System has been design and developed based on the three-tier software architecture by considering Windows 2000 as the main operating system. Rational Rose 2002 and Microsoft Visio 2002 used as the system designing tools. Front tier application software and middle tier components has been developed using Microsoft Visual basic 6.0 enterprise edition. Seagate Crystal Report 8.5 used as the reporting generating tool and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition used as the database management system. This project encompasses main activities of the administration department from the registration of a candidate to graduation of a candidate. In addition to that, system provides various queries and reports to assist staff to make their decisions correct and effective way. The project dissertation covers the techniques and methodologies & approaches used in the design and development process.
